PRESENT,

THE KING’S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY
IN COUNCIL

It is this day ordered by His Majesty in Council that the First Minister of Scotland is authorised to make use of the existing Great Seal of Scotland until another Seal be prepared and authorised by His Majesty.

Richard Tilbrook

Ornamentation

At the top is St. Edward's Crown surrounded by heraldic plants.

Printed in Times New Roman.

Special Features

Technically, there is no Great Seal of Scotland. Rather, it's formally styled "the Seal appointed by the Treaty of Union to be kept and made use of in place of the Great Seal of Scotland."

This Order appears to be a new development. In 1952, there was no specific Order for the Scottish Seal (though there was one for the Great Seal for Northern Ireland). At that time, the Secretary of State for Scotland had custody of the Scottish Seal, so it may have been covered by the Order authorizing the Secretaries of State to continue using their Seals.
