Vellum documents for Counsellors of State
- I attach herewith the last document issued on 21st May last appointing Counsellors of State during The Queen’s absence in Australia.
- Similar documents are frequently issued on the instructions of the Home Office, who in turn receive instructions from the Palace. When the document has been completed it is sent to the Privy Council for safe keeping. A warrant is signed by The Queen [(^also attached)] before the document is engrossed and notices are published in the London, Edinburgh and Belfast Gazettes.
- If the Letters Patent were to be typed and bear the Wafer Great Seal you would need to consult Sir Neville Leigh, The Queen’s Private Secretary and the Legal Adviser to the Home Office.
